Master of Education (M.Ed.) Degree

Master of Education (M.Ed.) Degree With Concentrations in:

About the Concentrations

For the Administration and Curriculum & Instruction Concentrations coursework of 33 hours is required, including a 15-hour concentration in Curriculum and Instruction or Administration. Students may complete the coursework in one of the three following delivery models:

6-week Summers-only Program
Courses are offered in three 2-week blocks with a maximum course load of nine (9) hours per summer. Tuition is $220 per credit hour.

Adult Degree Program
Courses are offered through a self-directed, study-at-home program. Attendance at a 10-day, on-campus seminar during the month of July is required prior to the beginning of each block of 12-18 hours of coursework. At the conclusion of all coursework, attendance at a 5-day seminar in July is also required. Tuition is $4,700 per 12-18 hours.

Evening Program

Courses are offered two nights a week on Tuesday and Thursday. Students take 2 courses per night, to finish the program within 21 months. Tuition is $750 per class.

  For the Clinical Ministry Concentration 37 semester hours are required, including 6 hours of Clinical Pastoral Education.
  Twice-yearly, intensive classes Courses are offered in 2-week intensive sessions in January and May with a maximum course load of seven (7) hours per session. Summer coursework, during the 6-week Summers-only Program and an off-campus clinical component are also required. Tuition is $220 per hour.

Admissions Information

A minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 is required for admission into the Summer Program, the Evening Program and the Clinical Ministry Concentration. A GPA of 3.00 is required for the Adult Degree Program. Applicants must provide a completed application, an official transcript showing completion of a baccalaureate degree, completion of the prerequisites, an essay and two letters of recommendation. Applicants to the Adult Degree Program must also submit satisfactory GRE scores. Degree Requirements

Master of Education (M.Ed):
Concentrations in Curriculum & Instruction or Administration
33 hours
This degree is designed for experienced elementary or secondary educators. Degree candidates will choose, in consultation with an advisor, a concentration of five courses in Curriculum and Instruction, or Administration (Principal).
A. Required core courses (9 hours) Credit Hours

B. Concentration (15 hours)  
Curriculum and Instruction.
EDCI 535, 580, (or 581 or 582) and 630 (or PSYC 590) are required courses.
In addition to the three required curses, two electives from the following:
EDCI 570, 575, 580, 581, 582, 599, 630, 636; EDUC 560, PSYC 515, 590.
 
Administration (Principal).
EDCI 535; EDAD 555, 585, 625, and 650 are required. To receive a denominational certificate in Administration, the student must also qualify for a Professional Teaching Certificate. For details see Certification Requirements K-12 published by the North American Division Office of Education.

Requirements to earn an additional M.Ed. Concentration
Students who have graduated from one concentration may return to complete an additional concentration. Courses in the Administration Concentration are only offered in the summer. To earn additional concentrations:
1. Students must complete the additional concentration within the original seven-year time limit
2. Students are required to earn a total of 45 credits. Each additional concentration will require 12 additional hours
3. Students who earn multiple concentrations will only participate in one graduation ceremony.
A limited number of students will be accepted to complete requirements for the M.Ed. program following an alternative approach that combines summer coursework with coursework taken using the Adult Degree Program model. (The ADP approach is not applicable to students taking the Clinical Ministry Concentration.)
