What is the IGNITION program?
- An opportunity for first-time college students to earn up to four (4) credit hours with free tuition. It’s a great chance for students to ignite their college experience!
Who is IGNITION for?
- Ignition is for first-time college students (freshmen) looking to get a jump-start on their college experience.
- You must apply to Atlantic Union College to be accepted into the Ignition program.
When is IGNITION?
- IGNITION is a three-and-a-half week program that takes place
July 29th – August 22nd, 2007. - Plan to arrive on campus during the early afternoon of Sunday,
July 29th. You will be able to register and move into the dorm at this time.
What courses are being offered during IGNITION?
Each student may take a maximum of 4 credits – a single 3-credit course and
a single 1-credit course. AUC reserves the right to cancel or add a course at any time.
- Choose one of the following three (3) credit courses:
- CPTR120 Introduction to Computer Science (3 credits)
- HIST142 World History II (3 credits)
- MATH130 College Algebra (3 credits)
- RELB125 Life & Teachings of Jesus (3 credits)
- ART203 Photography (3 credits)

- Choose one of the following one (1) credit courses:
- INDC110 Strategies for Success (1 credit)
- PEAC109 SCUBA Diving Certification (1 credit)
[An additional fee of approximately $275 is required for this course.] - PEAC103 Beginning Swimming (1 credit)
- PEAC104 Intermediate Swimming (1 credit)
- CPTR130 Writing with Computers (1 credit)
How often do the classes meet? and for how long?
- The three-credit classes meet every weekday (Monday – Friday)
from 9am to noon. - The one-credit classes will meet (Monday – Thursday) in the afternoon
for a little over an hour.
What is the cost of IGNITION?
- Ignition is a “cost up-front” program. This means that there is no financial aid available for Ignition. Please be prepared to pay the sub-total cost of the program on Sunday, July 29th when you arrive on campus. Note that the cost of textbooks is not included. Depending on the course(s) students select, the cost of textbooks differs.
- Here’s the breakdown of the cost for dorm students:
- Tuition FREE! (For 4 credits)
- Dorm $300 (Residence Hall)
- Food $300 (Cafeteria – three meals a day)
- General Fee $175 (Social activities & misc. fees)

- Here’s the BEST Part!
- If you enroll at AUC as a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours per semester) for the Fall & Spring semesters of the 2007 – 2008 academic year, then both dorm and food costs
- Dorm $300
- Food $300
will be reimbursed to you! You will get $600 back at the end of the Spring semester of 2008.
- Note: Community students (students neither residing in the dorms nor eating in the café) need only pay the $175 General fee on July 29th.
No reimbursement will be given.
- The final cost of IGNITION could be $175!
Can I attend IGNITION and transfer the credits I earn to another college?
- Yes. The four (4) credits you earn are transferable to another accredited college. If you choose to attend a different college your freshman year, you can take your earned credits with you.
